Right now in Treviso

Worked out with Italian time and public holidays from the official hours. The sign at the gate always prevails.

Treviso does not close off everything inside its walls. The ZTL covers only the core around Piazza dei Signori and the Calmaggiore, watched day and night by six cameras. A seventh, on the Ponte San Francesco, reads number plates only at certain times: same zone, different checks.

Two small zones are added at night, from 10pm to 6am: Via Manin, which starts at the Piazza Duomo car park, and, since 28 May 2025, the streets around Via Roggia. There is no ticket for visitors, and the council publishes no prices at all.

The zones and their hours

ZTL Centro Storico

The heart of the historic centre, shown in blue on the ZTL portal's map: Piazza dei Signori, the Calmaggiore, the cathedral, the Buranelli canal, the Loggia dei Cavalieri, the Pescheria island and Via XX Settembre. Piazza Duomo and its car park are outside. No official list of streets exists: the boundary comes only from that map, which does not reach the whole of the walled town.

It is closed to unauthorised vehicles 24 hours a day, every day, Sundays and public holidays included: there is no quiet hour when you could slip through.

6 number-plate cameras (“varchi”) watch the entrances.

Varco di Ponte San Francesco

Not an extra zone: this is one of the seven entrances to the historic-centre ZTL, the only one whose camera works just at these times. The rest of the zone stays closed round the clock. The public holidays are the national ones; 27 April, the feast of San Liberale, the city's patron saint, is not among them.

It is active at these times:

Outside these hours, these entrances are open, but the rest of the “ZTL Centro Storico” zone keeps its own hours.

A single camera checks the entrance.

ZTL Via Manin

Via Daniele Manin, from the Piazza Duomo car park to the junction of Via XX Settembre and Via Sant'Andrea. If you leave the car at the cathedral car park for the evening, check the time before driving out this way.

Outside these hours, access is free.

ZTL Via Roggia

The streets between Piazza Tommasini and Ponte San Cristoforo: Via Marzolo, Vicolo Dotti, Via Sugana, Vicolo del Gallo, Via Municipio, Via Tommasini and Piazza Trentin. You enter from Via Roggia and Via Dotti. No camera has been announced, and the sources do not say how the zone is enforced.

Who can drive in

Visitors: hotels, rental cars, tickets

Staying in a hotel

If your accommodation is inside the ZTL, you register your number plate with the city yourself; the hotel does not do it for you. A hotel outside the zone gives you no right to drive in. You must do so within 5 days of your entry.

Tickets for non-residents

There is no day ticket for tourists. The simplest option is to park outside and walk or take a bus.

Rental cars

The fine notice goes to the rental company, which names you as the driver and usually charges an admin fee, before the fine itself reaches you, sometimes months later.

At a hotel, you register your plate yourself, through the ZTL portal's online procedure, as long as the hotel or B&B is inside the zone. The day you drive in does not count: the deadline is midnight on the fifth day, moved to the next working day if that falls on a public holiday. Access covers your whole stay, but you may only stop in the zone for 20 minutes.

Motorbikes and scooters are not mentioned anywhere: only bicycles go in without any formalities. With no written exemption, assume a motorbike follows the same rule as a car.

Two-hour passes are for listed cases only (pharmacy, wedding, bulky goods and so on) and must be registered before you drive in. Bars, restaurants and carriers deliver from 6am to 10am and from 2pm to 4pm.

The 2018 regulations allow 15 minutes' tolerance per entry. The Ufficio Permessi answers on 0422 1915580, by appointment only. Finally, Lungosile Mattei is a school ZTL run on the spot by the local police: in September 2025 the council gave its hours as 12.30pm to 2pm on working days, with shorter hours under review, and nothing has been published since.

Treviso in numbers

Where official sources disagree

The ZTL portal has barely changed since January 2023, and the only regulations published date from February 2018.

If you drive in without a permit

Driving past an active gate without a permit costs €83 to €332 (article 7 of the Italian Highway Code), cut by 30% if you pay within 5 days. Since the 2024 reform, when the passages are recorded by camera rather than by an officer on the spot, only one fine per calendar day applies for the same ban, even if you drive through several times (article 198). No licence points are deducted. If you think you were entitled to enter (hotel, disabled badge), contact the office named on the notice before paying: a late registration can sometimes still be sorted out.

Frequently asked questions

Can I drive into central Treviso on a Sunday?

Not without authorisation: six entrances are monitored round the clock, and the Ponte San Francesco camera also works all day at weekends and on public holidays.

My hotel is inside the ZTL: who registers my plate?

You do, online on the ZTL portal, by midnight on the fifth day after you first drive in. Access covers your stay.

Is there a tourist ticket in Treviso?

No. Two-hour passes are for listed cases only and must be registered beforehand.

Which streets close at night?

Via Manin and the Via Roggia area, from 10pm to 6am. From Monday to Friday, the Ponte San Francesco entrance is only checked during those hours too. The rest of the centre is closed at all times.

Can motorbikes go in?

No council document mentions them. To be safe, assume they follow the same rule as cars.
